Parliamentary and local elections to be held on 17 December 2023

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic signed today in the Serbian Presidency a decree on the dissolution of the Serbian parliament and the calling of parliamentary elections for 17 December.

Vucic said that on the basis of Article 109, paragraph 1 and 5 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia and Article 21, paragraph 1 of the Law on the President of the Republic, based on the reasoned proposal of the Serbian government from 30 October, he issued the decree on the dissolution of the Serbian parliament.

The deadlines for carrying out electoral activities start to run from the day of coming into force of this decision, with the date of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, Vucic said.

Serbian parliament speaker Vladimir Orlic today called local elections for 17 December and invited citizens and political actors to take part in these elections.

Speaking at a press conference in the Serbian parliament, Orlic said that the local elections have been called in line with the Law on Local Elections and the Law on Local Self-Government and that the elections for councillors will be held in the assemblies of 65 cities and municipalities in the Republic of Serbia.

This decision comes into force with the date of its publication in the Official Gazette and from that moment, the deadlines for carrying out electoral activities start to run, Orlic noted and added that the elections will be implemented by the competent authorities in line with the law.

Date: 01/11/2023
